Wallcoverings create historical atmosphere at Hotel George
Our client, CBT Architects, needed to redesign a 140-room boutique hotel in Washington D.C.’s Capitol Hill neighbourhood. The mood in the interior of Hotel George needed to evoke a sense of history and remain authentic to the context of the neighbourhood while still feeling comfortable and sophisticated. The colour palette of the entire project needed to be driven from the featured wall in each room. Custom accents were used to perfectly compliment TI’s printed wallcoverings and achieve the designers intent.
To accomplish this was no small feat. TI Group contacted the Center for Legislative Archives in Washington DC to get permission to use an actual scan of George Washington’s first inaugural address. The colour needed to be perfect; the texture needed to appear as rich as the original parchment and ink that the wallcoverings were derived from. As the entire project relied so heavily on the look of the walls, proofs and tests needed to be done to make sure the client was getting exactly what they had envisioned. Our expert prepress and retouching staff made sure to achieve the required colour and feel of the original, while expanding the artwork to be able to cover an entire hotel room.
The result of this great partnership between designer and printer was a re-designed hotel that is simply breathtaking in its attention to detail and comfort level for the clientele staying there.
